Ocean Falls : Central Coast Power Corporation (CCPC)

Central Coast Power Corporation was formed in 1985 by Tony Knott when the hydro electric and associated assets of the Ocean Falls Corporation were sold. The generating capability consists of four horizontal axis Pelton turbines supplied with water from Link Lake by a single 12 foot penstock. Two of the generators are 5 MVA, and two are 2.5 MVA. CCPC supplies power to Bella Bella/Shearwater via a 45 kilometre transmission line constructed by the company, and to the town of Ocean Falls. Average consumption is approximately 1.5 megawatts (higher in winter).

CCPC is the largest employer in Ocean Falls with up to six contractors working on maintenance of the powerhouse, mechanical shop, and transmission line, in addition to three powerhouse operators.

CCPC has some heavy equipment including: backhoe/loader, Hitachi Excavator, Caterpillar D8 Cat, rock drill, 30 kilowatt portable generator, and powder magazine.

At the time of turnover all controls were electro-mechanical. Solid state technology is now being introduced with the intention of ultimately being able to monitor and control the powerhouse remotely.

CCPC is interested in attracting small business and light industry to the area, and to this end CCPC will consider joint venturing with viable enterprises.
