BELLA COOLA - the final link
Bella Coola is the final link in the chain of rivers, lakes and trails that brought Alexander Mackenzie across the North American continent two centuries ago.

A Country of Nations From Sea to Sea to Sea
Mackenzie and his companions travelled canoe routes and foot trails through vast lands that were home to many Native nations. The arrival at Bella Coola of Mackenzie, a Scot, with his native guides and French-Canadian voyageurs marked an historic event. For the first time, it drew togehter a country of nations from sea to sea to sea. From the Atlantic to the Arctic and finally the Pacific, their explorations helped establish the future boundaries of Canada.

This booklet helps tell some of the many stories of Bella Coola as you walk through time.

In traditional dress, a Nuxalk elder and family meet
Mackenzie and his companions in a re-enactment of
the historic event of 1793.
