Not all of the mammals listed live permanently within our marine areas some are year round residents, some occur during a particular season and some you may see on their migratory path. Many of these mammals are very rare and occur on the far western reaches of our area nearer to the open ocean.

The Central Coast is home to some of the healthiest mammal populations in British Columbia due to its vast isolation, sparse human settlement and diversity of its land base. Good viewing areas occur throughout the region, estuaries and bays offer excellent opportunities to spot wild animals.
