What is the CCRD?The Central Coast Regional District is a Corporation established by the Province of B.C. under the Municipal Act. Regional Districts are relatively new creatures; most of them were created in the mid to late 1960's. The Ocean Falls Regional District was incorporated on July 16, 1968. The name was changed to the Central Coast Regional District when the offices were moved to Bella Coola. The geographic area covered by the Regional District is roughly the same as the Mid Coast Forest District and exactly the same as School District No. 49. The rural area is divided into five electoral areas. It is bordered by Kappan Lake to the East, south to Smith's Inlet and North to the Kimsquit River. The Board of Directors is made up of five individuals, one director representing each electoral area and each director having one vote. The Electoral Area directors are elected for a three-year term. A listing of the directors can be found here. The Central Coast Regional District is the only regional district of the twenty- seven in the province that does not have incorporated municipalities within its borders. We are known in the Provincial environment as having a very small tax assessment base and a very small population in a relatively large area. Each director can have an alternate who is entitled to sit in the Director's place at the Board meetings, but the alternate does not automatically fill in for the Director at the committee level.
