The Bella Coola Museum(For more information, including a searchable database of photos from the history of the Central Coast, please visit www.bellacoolamuseum.ca)The museum is located on Highway 20 in the village of Bella Coola, in a building consisting of two log houses. The main section, the P.K. Pedersen Building, was built in 1898 by Rasmus Levelton. This building was once a school house and moved to its present site from lower Bella Coola. The foyer was erected by Captain Thorsen in 1892 for one of the first surveyors to come to the area and was one of the first permanent houses built by white men in Bella Coola. The museum is operated by the Bella Coola Museum Society which was formed in 1963. Its aim is to encourage interest in the local history and to exhibit the collection of local artifacts. This group opens the museum to the public during the summer months.
