ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT The Central Coast Regional District is located on B.C.’s central west coast, encompassing 25,000 square kilometres. Its boundaries stretch from the Pacific Ocean to the Coastal Mountains and include world-renowned destinations, such as Tweedsmuir Park, Dean River, the Bella Coola Valley and numerous lodges on Rivers Inlet. The economies of the eight communities are well positioned for diversification and growth. The Government of B.C. and various stakeholders recently concluded a long-term Land and Resource Management Plan, which lays the foundation for economic prosperity. All levels of government have given regional economic development a senior priority. This is most evident with B.C.’s recently announced Northern Development Initiative and the Ministry of Forests’ invitation to a local organization for significant timber volume tenure. B.C. has also conducted extensive business opportunity identification research and analyses. The CCRD just concluded an Economic Development Operating Plan, which focuses on specific targets. The potential for small-to-medium enterprise expansions and start-ups abound – with ensured long-term provision of B.C. Ferries’ Discovery Coast Passage service and a vastly improved Highway 20 corridor (Cariboo-Chilcotin-Coast). Numerous business opportunities now exist in the resource processing and tourism sectors. The regional labour force is well trained and entrepreneurially inclined. With some of the most realistic real estate values in B.C., supported by a comprehensive infrastructure, we possess numerous sustainable competitive advantages. The CCRD established the Central Coast Economic Development Commission (EDC) in 1988. The EDC is comprised of nine volunteer commissioners nominated from the community. Its mandate is to assist with implementing our Economic Development Operating Plan. WE’RE OPEN FOR BUSINESS For further information, please contact: David Anderson
