Bella Coola : A Closer Look

Law Enforcement
The R.C.M.P. (Royal Canadian Mounted Police) in the Bella Coola valley have four full time officers. If there is no one in the office, calls will automatically be put through to the head office in Kamloops, who will inform local officers about your call. Phone : (250) 799-5363.

Postal Service
Postal service is available via post offices in both Bella Coola and Hagensborg.Post office box and general delivery are available. Incoming and outgoing mail on Monday, Wednesday and Friday by road from William's Lake.

Medical & Dental
The Bella Coola General is a United Church Mission Hospital. This facility is the largest and best equipped to handle any medical situation west of William's Lake. There are 15 beds, two extended care and three long term care included. Specialists are scheduled to visit, varying from once a year to every three months.

The Clinic (a part of the hospital) has two full time, two part time doctors and one family practice resident. There is also a pharmacy attached with one full time pharmacist.

BC Hydro
Bella Coola's BC Hydro is a non-integrated system, zone 2 and the power is slighlty less reliable than an integrated system. Average reliable hours of usage per customer is 99.98% and the total current capacity is 7.5 MW. This capacity is generated by two sources : a Hydro Electric Plant (2.0MW) and Diesel Generators (5.5MW). Check out the Clayton Falls Recreation Site.
